Onco - Grand Rounds/Plenary cases FAQs

I have attached the grand rounds groupings. I was mistaken in believing na may separate paper cases. I think each person need only concern him/herself with

2 patients and SGD for each patient
1 case for the grand rounds

LOOK AT THE GROUPINGS HERE so you won't be confused.

FAQs:

1) Are we being grouped per block? NOES. You aren't. Refer to the attached file. There are a total of ten groups.

2) Do we have just one case like nung IDS na module? No. Each group will have its own case and present on the scheduled date, also seen in the attached file.

3) Why do we have to worry about these NOW, eh usually end of the module naman ang grand rounds? Well, as early as July 7/Thursday, meron nang magp-present na grand rounds. Check if you are one of these unfortunate/fortunate few.

4) How come sa sched, may nakalagay na "plenary cases" and "grand rounds"? Is there a difference between the two? Yes, apparently. Even the plenary cases will follow the schedules in the attached file, BUT their cases will be cases seen at the wards (c/o pedia and rad onco). The grand rounds, they will give paper cases with guides on topics for discussion. But basically it's the same idea. Your group will present a case to a panel of specialists. The rest of the class should still be there to attend, though.

Onco - SGD FAQs

If you're a bit confused as to how the SGDs will go... honestly ako rin. This is how I understand things:

1) The ward work and SGDs will be handled by the different departments: rad onco, med onco, ped onco, surg onco. They will give us our patient assignments separately. Each student will be facing one student, and having two different SGDs with two different consultants.

On MONDAY, July 4, we will have the whole afternoon to look at our patients. The groupings have been attached in a file below, in a table where you will find the schedule for the SGDs/preceptorials as well. Which means that you will have to make good use of your time to look at both patients.

2) What do we need for the SGDs anyway? History, PE, differential diagnosis, and treatment plan. Some consultants will meet you and go to the patient with you during your scheduled SGD time, while some will only discuss it away from the bedside. Bahala na ang consultant doon.

3) Will we have the same groupings for the two patients? Not necessarily. If you check the second page of the finalpatientgroupings.docx file, you will find that there will be differences between the July 5 (Tuesday) and July 6 (Wednesday) SGDs. For example, group 4A has been split into two for Wed SGDs; Espiritu to Fajutagana will be with 3A, and Fernandez to Gabriel will be with 3B.

4) Do we have the actual patient assignments yet? Yes, for some. Those under med onco have been posted sabi ng fellow (though I can't check personally because I'm in Laguna) near the cancer institute. These are the groups na meron for med onco:

FOR THE JULY 5 SGDs - 2b, 3a, 3b, 4a.
FOR THE JULY 6/8 SGDs - 2b, 4b, 6b, 7a.

Another patient assignment we know of was just texted in yesterday from Surg Onco. For the group assigned to Dr Cabungcal (JULY 5 SGD), the patient is Abroguena, Ernesto, ward 2 bed 53, with prostate CA (ayan may sagot na). This group is 7b (my block, haha). 7B patient assignent for the other SGD, in case you are wondering, is not yet up.

5) Will we have SGDs on the same days and times? Not necessarily. For July 5, everyone will have an SGD, but the block 2B will have their SGD at 11-12 noon (again, see the finalpatientgroupings.docx file).

For the second SGD, blocks 1A to 4A will have theirs on July 6; 4B will have theirs on July 8; 5A to 8B will still have theirs on July 6.

I hope that answers some questions. Please keep referring to the attached file para hindi kayo maguluhan okay? I know it's hard to understand pero kailangang ganoon kasi divided talaga sa iba-ibang onco :)

Tentative grand rounds work schedule

Case presentor, moderator and surgeon to be elected from the class. (Honestly have no idea yet what "surgeon" is supposed to do; baka siya yung parang pathologist?)

Please text me what you think ASAP. I'm really sorry I didn't tend to this earlier.

SGD schedule

This has also been mailed to the groups. These are the schedules for the Monday and Wednesday SGDs; this is the version that I pieced together from the schedules mailed separately to me by the adult and pedia fellows.

Syllabus has been uploaded!

May syllabus na.

Wala talagang grade ang attendance, but sana we keep going to class :) We'll also still pass around attendance.

Congenital Infections Lecture

I've uploaded a rapidshare link via e-mail. Pero honestly I didn't want to post it here, to keep access to it limited :) Find it via the groups. Sorry for the late upload, it was mailed only this evening.
